Sierra Morgano is a SAS athlete who plays soccer for club and for HHS. She participates in SAS not only to keep up her fitness, but also because she enjoys it. Morgano says, “Everyone in the weight room is always pushing the people around them to become stronger and helping to motivate them. It’s a really good environment to be in with all the positivity.” This, among other things, is one of her favorite reasons for going to SAS.

Morgano, a sophomore at Hamilton, has been nominated by SAS coach Seely as SAS Athlete of the Month. Morgano says, “Honestly, at first I only came to SAS because of soccer. The soccer coaches told the girls that attendance is important, and I couldn’t go to many of the pre-season open gyms because of my club soccer so I decided to go to SAS. Eventually, as the semester went on, I started to really like going.” As time went on, she kept working at achieving goals and becoming better with her skill, that she says, “I’m still improving today.” Seely says, “Her desire to become the best soccer player she can be is really fun to watch.” Morgano’s motivation is always there, and she puts in the time and effort to achieve her goals of playing soccer after high school. She says, “I go to SAS because I want to keep getting stronger and faster, so I keep going to continue pushing myself.”

Through all the fun in SAS, there are still times when things get tough. For example, Morgano says, “The most challenging part of SAS for me is knowing when to add more weight and challenge myself. I’ve been going to SAS for a while now and my technique is pretty good so I should add more weight when lifting but I usually don’t. Coach Seely has come up to me in the weight room a couple of times and told me to add what I thought was too much weight, and I ended up being able to lift it fairly easily.”

Through challenging times, with great coaching and motivation from peers, Morgano has proven to be a great competitor. Seely says, “She has embraced the feeling of being uncomfortable during her training sessions. She knows that challenging herself to new heights takes more effort and work then she’s previously done. She’s willing to take herself and others to those new levels.”

Morgano says, “My soccer team almost never does anything that makes our arms stronger, because you don’t use them in soccer. Instead, we either run or do some form of ab workout. SAS also helped me get faster. The agility part of SAS focuses on becoming faster which helps a lot in soccer, so I will be the one that gets to the ball first.”
