Congratulations to September’s Male Athlete of the Month, Cole McCoy! Cole is a current sophomore at Hamilton and plays on the Boys’ Varsity Volleyball team as an outside. Most recently, he helped his team win the Germantown Varsity Boys’ Volleyball Tournament.

Senior setter, Henry Mrotek, speaks highly of Cole stating, “Cole McCoy works to improve our setter-hitter connection every day. He is a great guy to have on the team.”

Head Coach Grey Little adds, “Cole McCoy is a sophomore starter on the boys volleyball team. He surprised us at tryouts with his natural ability as well as his willingness to learn and adapt to the varsity level of play. His ability to play all 6 rotations as an outside hitter makes him a very valuable piece of our team. He continues to learn from his upper class teammates and is always open to suggestions from coaches as well as teammates. Being only a sophomore we are excited to see him grow as a player and individual on and off the court.”

How long have you played your sport, and why do you play?

I have been playing volleyball since 6th grade. I play volleyball because it’s fun, and I like playing with the people that I play with.

Who is your athlete role model, and why?

My athlete role model is Kobe Bryant because he would demonstrate that even when you're tired you still need to keep pushing.

What has your main goal this season been?

My main goal this season has been cleaning up the simple mistakes in my game so I can become a more complete player.

What are your future plans involving volleyball?

My future plans for volleyball is to go D1 and after that hopefully play professionally overseas.

Do you play any other sports and if so what?

This past year I have played basketball and baseball.

Do you have any teammates, coaches, parents, or other people in your life that have helped as an athlete?

My club coach, Coach Tamari. She has helped me gain a more developed IQ of the game and work on different hits for me to better my chance of a kill.

Besides volleyball, what are some of your other hobbies?

I like to snowboard in the winter and golf in the summer.

What are your pregame/race/meet rituals?

I don’t really have any pregame rituals besides the normal getting stretched out and warmed up.

Do you have any pieces of advice?

Practice how you play.
