See Bass Strong with SAS
Teja Lebaka
Sebastian Ruska is the December SAS athlete for 2022. Ruska is a sophomore at Hamilton High School. Outside of SAS, Ruska enjoys playing tennis and hiking. Ruska has done two summers and this is his second school year doing SAS. When asked what his favorite part about SAS is he said, “The weight room is my favorite. I also like running through the cameras.”
“See Bass” has been chosen as the athlete of the month by Coach Seely. Ruska says, “I like the thought of working out without it being competitive. Plus it is good for my physical and mental health.” A regular day at SAS for Ruska involves doing warm-ups, then going into the weight room. For speed, he runs through the camera, does sprints, and runs through the hurdles. He then works on strength and practices the 3-point stance. For agility he does a variety of exercises Ruska intends to stay in SAS and hopes to get faster times, lift heavier, and do more reps and sets.
“Ruska has been training with purpose and fire! This guy is a legend in the weight room and moves with such speed that he would dust ‘The Freeze’ (Atlanta Braves),” says Coach Seely. “In all seriousness, Sebastian has worked incredibly hard and the coaching staff has loved his dedication and work ethic. Good job, dude!” Coach Seely says that if you see See bass in the halls say hey, but never challenge him to a race!!
SAS is a really outstanding program but through all of the enjoyable times, there are challenging ones, too. Ruska says, “Running through the hurdles is the most challenging. It takes a lot of concentration and thought.” SAS is a well-known Hamilton program with lots of opportunities for personal growth, so it is highly encouraged for people who want to better themselves physically. Coach Seely, among other coaches, would love to see you there and help you on your journey to physical greatness.
To anyone who is interested in joining SAS, Ruska says that it is, overall, a fun program and a good workout. The coaches and students are nice and supportive, you'll soon enjoy coming to SAS.
