What would students be surprised to know about you?

I’m a big fan of the band U2, and have seen them live 13 times. I probably have close to 100 recordings of them live in concert.

How do you think students will remember you or your class?

We live in an increasingly globalized and interconnected world, and my hope is that my students understand that there is so much more to the world than what they simply see in their own community.

If you won 100 million dollars what would you buy first?

I’d take a dream trip with my wife to Oktoberfest. Sadly I can’t go until I retire because it is celebrated during the school year.

Describe yourself in one sentence.

A hard-working and inquisitive individual who loves dogs.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

If someone dares you to do something, it is a pretty safe bet that it is a bad idea.

Would you rather meet your future self or talk to your past self? Why?

As a history teacher, I’d rather talk to my past self so I could tell myself to buy stock in Apple, and avoid some past hairstyle mistakes.

What is the coolest thing you have ever done? Why?

I spent a semester abroad in Germany.  It forced me to learn new things and become more independent because there was no one there to help me.

What is your absolute favorite movie? Why?

Star Wars - I was hooked from the first time I saw it.

What is something you will never get tired of?

Mr. Tennessen’s quick-witted humor and frank commentary.

What is one thing you wish you would have invented?

The iPhone

If you could get rid of anything, what would it be and why?

Racism - No explanation needed.

What is your favorite color?

Red - The color of FC Bayern

What superpower would you like to have? Why?

I love to travel and see new places, so I’d love the ability to fly, or even better, to teleport myself somewhere.  It would also make my commute to and from work pretty short.

What mystery do you wish you knew the answer to? Why?

How did whoever built Stonehenge accomplish such a feat?  Without modern machinery, how does one put those stones in place?

What is your favorite animal and why?

Dogs!  Our family dog goes with us everywhere possible and is like a member of the family.

How have your previous teachers shaped your teaching style?

My HS history teachers made social studies exciting by bringing stories of dead people to life.  The best teacher I ever had, however ,was my dad, who also happened to teach history.  Not only did he teach me about the past, but he also taught me about life.

What is your favorite food?

Much to the dismay of my waistline, I love donuts.  I especially enjoy one from a quality bakery.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years? 20 years?

In five years I hope to still be at Hamilton shaping young minds.  In ten years, I hope to be relaxing somewhere during retirement.  In twenty years, I hope I'll be able to spend time with grandkids if my kids ever get married.

What is your favorite place you have traveled to?

München, Germany, which also happens to be the home to my favorite football club.  Dublin and London are a close second and third.

What is your least favorite day of the week?

Wednesday - Any energy I had banked from the weekend is gone by then in addition to knowing there are still two days left until the weekend.
