Nevaeh Hughes is a senior on Hamilton’s Cheer Team. She has been a major contributor to their successful seasons for the past four years and is excited to continue her athletic career after high school!

Izzy Pack, junior, says of Hughes, “Nevaeh was always someone that teammates could go to no matter what; she was reliable in so many ways whether it was needing help with choreography or you just needed someone to talk to. Being on a team with Nevaeh was a blessing, and I am so glad I got to spend these past three years cheering with her!”

What school are you committed to? Why this school?

I’m committed to Arizona State University. I chose this college because I hoped to go far away from Wisconsin but also somewhere near family. Luckily, my grandmother and uncle live in Arizona, so I’ll be able to see them.

What is your intended major?

Forensic Science.

What experiences do you feel that you’ve had, whether it be through Hamilton or through any other clubs, that you feel have prepared you for playing a sport in college?

I feel like these past two cheer seasons have heavily impacted and prepared me for my transition to a college sport. We’ve been well organized and had to learn how to manage our time which plays a major role in being on an active team. Specifically, getting to compete with multiple teams will assist me in having to memorize two different routines, since in college, I will have to learn up to 24 routines to be executed at any given moment.

Who is your biggest inspiration in your sports endeavors or a person you would like to shout out and why?

I would like to shout out my entire family for supporting me through my cheer career so far. They’ve endured countless hours of dance moves and practicing chants. My mom had the honor of driving me from different competitions on the weekends. I would also like to shout out my coaches, Courtney and Kaitlyn, as they believed in me and saw potential I couldn’t see yet.
