The 2022-2023 cheer season was one to remember for Hamilton High School. Hamilton Cheer does a lot behind the scenes that many don't see. This year was the first year Hamilton Cheer competed in not one, but two varsity competitions. The Game Day and Traditional categories both placed in the top three at state. Although this took a tremendous amount of work to pull off, cheer has the longest season of any HHS sport, so the team had lots of time to perfect their routines.
But Charger Cheer does so much more than that: they go to home and away football games, decorate the locker rooms for boys football, go to home women’s and men’s games and skillfully craft new routines to engage spirit. Each girl on the team works hard in order to pull off amazing routines on Friday nights for football and Tuesday nights for basketball.
Junior Lylah Baumann stated, “This season was full of great achievements and setbacks. As some may know, cheer has held the state title for 4 years in a row and the past 4 years all past athletes have worked so hard for that title. Despite all of our hard work and dedication this year we have passed that title on to 2 other teams in Wisconsin. Although this is saddening for all of the athletes on our team, the fun we had this year was unmatchable. As a junior I can say that this season has been one of the best; I have made such great memories with what I call my best friends at football games, basketball games, and other events that the cheer team has attended. But the best part about this season was all of the amazing practices! All of the laughter and excitement at practice was something that I looked forward to everyday.”
To emphasize what Lylah Baumann said, the bonds created by the team this year were stronger than any year before. They persevered through many injuries and setbacks but continued to make it to state. Hamilton Cheer has continued to support the school sports by cheering them on at their games, while competing in cheer divisions of their own.
The team has many highlights from this season. They created the push-up board which is now a student section favorite during friday night football games, they had many fun themed practices, and participated in numerous team bonding activities to make sure the team’s bond stays strong throughout the year,
The Hamilton Cheer team had a very successful season filled with many ups and downs. Even though they did not place first this season, they are ready to kick it into full gear for the 2023-2024 season, where they will prepare to reclaim their state title.
