Ever get stuck scrolling through dozens of links while writing a paper? According to surveys, almost 40% of students spend anywhere between 3 to 4 hours a day researching and doing other school work online. It would be nice if we had all the resources at our disposal, and many students might not be aware of all of the resources the Hamilton IMC offers. One great tool that not many people know of that we have complete access to is the New York Times newspaper.
According to Mr. Roth, access to the Times has been really helpful to get information that supplements the topics in the curriculum. When asked about how he incorporates this tool in his class, he said, ‘‘Each day during my 20th Century US History course (and my Civics and Economics class), my students present current event articles. Knowing that students have access to The New York Times provides them a great resource to find current sources that are reputable.’’ Hitting ‘paywalls’ while researching is also a huge concern to many and access to the Times offers a really great way around that.
A special shoutout to Mrs.Gorski for taking the time to get this amazing resource for us. She says it's a great addition to any classroom and this inspired her to get the subscription for all students. Other than The New York Times, the Hamilton IMC also offers access to resources like Badgerlink, Wisconsin’s online library, which provides access to licensed content of 8000 full text magazines and over a billion newspaper articles not available through regular search engines like Google. Another great resource that we have access to is Academic Video Online, the most comprehensive video subscription available to libraries. It delivers almost 80,000* titles spanning the widest range of subject areas including anthropology, business, counseling, film, health, history, music, and more.
