Homecoming. Pep Rallies. Prom. Senior Ball. Fundraisers. They all fall under the umbrella of Student Council–but do you really know who the people behind student council are? While the whole council is composed of student leaders, the executive board is made up of a specific few students who have various roles and responsibilities.

The Student Council President serves as the leader of both the executive board and the whole council. The primary responsibilities of the Student Council President include planning and preparing for whole council meetings, maintaining council communication, delegating tasks to both executive and whole councils, maintaining relationships and contact with other Hamilton clubs and organizations, and the daily announcements. Our serving president is none other than Kate Powell. Kate’s favorite part of student council is being able to work with others to make a positive impact on the school community. Kate is a senior, as all Student Council Presidents must be according to the Council Constitution, and has been a student council member for the past five years.

The Vice President works closely with the President. The formal responsibilities outlined in the Constitution include planning and preparing for whole council meetings, assisting the President in their role, maintaining council communications, and assisting with daily announcements. This year’s Student Council Vice President is Peyton Impola, who is in her sixth year of council service. She served as both class president and vice president before she was elected to Council VP. Peyton is currently a junior, and her favorite thing about Student Council is the ability to take an active role in both the school and the local community.

The Student Council Secretary has a very unique job. The Secretary takes notes during both executive and council meetings, records the progress on council projects, takes accurate minutes, and updates the participation spreadsheet regularly. The current Student Council Secretary is senior Aniha Nagammanavar. This year marks her fifth year in student council, and her favorite aspect of the organization is the way council engages in selfless acts in order to benefit the well being of Hamilton.

The Student Council Treasurer for the 2021-2022 is Lauren Tennyson. The responsibilities of the Treasurer are to maintain the financial records of the student body, obtain account statements from the business office a minimum of three times a year, create a budget spreadsheet with the advisor to monitor expenses and income, and prepare financial statements and budgetary reports for the monthly council meetings. Lauren has been a member of Student Council for the past four years. Her favorite part of being a Student Council member is decorating the school for homecoming each year!

The final role that makes up the Student Council Executive Board is the Historian. The Historian's job is to manage the Student Council Instagram, prepare and maintain the Student Council bulletin board monthly, and compile a scrapbook of council activities for the year. Our current Historian is Mya Suneja, who has been a member of student council for four years. Mya’s favorite part of council is the opportunity to meet new people and the ability to become a better leader.

Last and certainly not least is the Student Council Advisor–Mrs. Misty Draeger. Mrs. Draeger has been the Advisor for 13 years, and without her none of council’s work would be possible. She works tirelessly to assure council events go smoothly and puts in countless hours of work for council and for the school. The entirety of the Executive Board and Student Council is lucky to have such a superb advisor and are endlessly grateful for all she does.

Student Council Executive Board elections occur each may, in concurrence with Class Officer elections. Be sure to keep an eye out for information regarding these elections so you can partake in the vote for the 2022-2023 school year.
