Congratulations to October’s female athlete of the month, Brooke Aslakson! Brooke is a current senior at Hamilton. She plays on the girls’ varsity volleyball team. Brooke has been an impact player this season helping to lead the team to a second place finish in the Greater Metro Conference.

Head Coach, Traci Buhr, speaks highly of her stating, “Brooke Aslakson has been a consistent leader for our team all season.  She leads the team in hitting percentage and is second on the team in both kills and blocks.  She is a fierce middle blocker who is so much fun to watch.  You can see the joy that she has with her teammates every time she's on the court.”

How long have you played volleyball, and why do you play?

I started playing volleyball in 5th grade. I play because of the escape it gives me and the relationships it has allowed me to build.

Who is your athlete role model, and why?

My athlete role model is Simone Biles because of her dedication to her sport and ability to inspire others both physically and mentally.

What has your main goal this season been?

My main goal this season has been to be a respectable leader and ensure my team achieves success. My biggest goal for our team is to make a return to state.

What are your future plans involving volleyball?

I am attending the University of Minnesota Duluth to further my volleyball career.

Do you play any other sports and if so what?

I don't play any other sports.

Do you have any teammates, coaches, parents, or other people in your life that have helped as an athlete?

All of my teammates have helped me become a more well rounded, understanding player. All of my coaches have helped push me to my potential and helped me reach success, specifically my high school coach Traci Buhr who has always believed in me.

Besides volleyball, what are some of your other hobbies?

I enjoy shopping and hanging out with friends.

What are your pre game rituals?

I listen to the same song before every game. (“Life Goes On” by Lil Baby).

Do you have any pieces of advice?

My biggest pieces of advice are to enjoy every moment and to not dwell on your mistakes.
