Over the past several months, Hamilton High School’s Synergy Show Choir has worked tirelessly on their 2023-24 show set, “Take Me To The River.” The show features 5 songs, with singing and dancing performers, all surrounding the theme of water. The team cannot wait to take the Hamilton Fine Arts Center stage on January 4th to preview their performance before their competition season begins!

The set of songs include, “River” by Bishop Briggs, “Water” by Pentatonix, “Something in the Water” by Carrie Underwood, a mashup of “Deep Water” by American Authors and “Take Me Down” by Carrie Manolakas, and “The River” by Jordan Feliz. Each song takes on its own story, dance moves, rhythm, and featured soloists.

I asked some of the group’s members about their thoughts on this year’s performance.

What is your favorite aspect of show choir?

“I love how close our team is, and how much we feel like a family. We’ve gotten a lot closer this year, and I feel that I can really rely on any member. That isn’t something you can say for every sport, so it’s really special.” (Jenna Korban, junior singer & dancer)

“When we all are able to sharpen and encourage one another, making the group so much stronger as a whole.” (Cash Campbell, senior singer & dancer)

What is the group’s strongest number in the show?

“I think that the closer is the group’s strongest number, as the energy and vocals are at their peak due to the number’s excitement!” (Jack Nagai, senior singer & dancer)

“The group’s strongest number is definitely ‘Water’ which is the second number in the show. The song is very energetic, and the lyrics and dance moves are impactful and entertaining.”

(Josh Spoerl, senior singer & dancer)

How does this year’s set compare to years prior?

“With the addition of more class time this year, we’ve not only grown closer as a team, but also learned how to listen to each other, learn many pieces of music, and added new elements to our set that we haven’t been able to add to years prior. We are a lot more unified and confident, which will be great to see at Parent Preview and the competition season!”

(Jill Arthur, senior singer & dancer)

“This year, the team feels so bonded together, that I feel like we are one. Our ‘tamily’ aspect is so strong, something that people in years prior haven't been able to say.”

(Sydney Alexander-Brown, senior singer & dancer)

Throughout the upcoming months, Synergy will travel to Milton, Sauk Prairie, De Pere, and Monona Grove to compete their set amongst other show choir teams across the midwest! The group will take the stage on January 4th in the Hamilton Fine Arts Center to preview their performance for the first time, so please come out to support them! Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults, and the show will begin at 7:30 pm.

The preview performance will also feature the brand-new middle school show choir, Harmony. The middle-school show choir is student-directed by juniors Reece Schrader and Gabby Ziegler.

How has Harmony helped support the choir program?

“Harmony gets students excited to be a part of a high school show choir, and allows them to see how they can be accepted and appreciated at the high school level.”

(Reece Schrader, junior singer & dancer)

“Harmony helps people learn about the Synergy community, and how important it is to express yourself.” (Gabby Ziegler, junior singer & dancer)

The group as a whole, including the singer and dancers, crew members, and combo band have worked tirelessly to bring this outstanding show to the Hamilton community, so make sure to come out to support them on January 4th!!

Tickets will be available at the door, and the show will begin in the Hamilton Fine Arts Center at 7:30 pm, $5 for students, $10 for adults.

Synergy hopes to see you there!
