Congratulations to January’s Female Athlete of the Month, Jacy Fierst! Jacy is a current senior here at Hamilton. She plays on the Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team. Jacy is a captain this season and has helped the Chargers to have an excellent start to their 2024-25 basketball season.
Head Coach Mark Busalacchi speaks highly of Jacy stating, “Jacy has been a consistent leader and steady force for us this season. She is someone the entire team knows they can rely on for anything, either its general information about times or schedules or anything on the court that is needed to get done. She is a special kid.”

How long have you played basketball, and why do you play?
I have played basketball since I was 5 years old. I play because I love everything that comes with it. The people, the exercise, and the lessons that I have learned. It is also something that has brought my family together since I was born. Everyone has played basketball in my family except my mom, and my two older siblings even played in college.
Who is your athlete role model, and why?
My athlete role model is Sabrina Ionescu. She has many similar aspects to her game as I do, and I admire her work ethic. I also love that it is clear she is able to balance basketball and every other part of her life.
What has your main goal this season been?
My main goal for this season has been to have fun, get better, and compete with every team we play.
What are your future plans involving basketball?
I plan to continue playing basketball wherever I go. I am not exactly sure what that looks like, but I know basketball is in my future.
Do you have any teammates, coaches, parents, or other people in your life that have helped as an athlete?
There have been many people in my life that have helped me as an athlete, but I would say my family has helped me the most. They have always been by my side as my biggest fans, but at the same time letting me know what I did wrong.
Besides basketball, what are some of your other hobbies?
I love to bake, read, and do a lot of different arts and crafts. I also just love to watch movies or sports games with my family.
What are your pre-game rituals?
I am not really superstitious, but starting last year I always made sure that I had a blue Powerade for every game.
Do you have any pieces of advice?
Trust the work you have put in. This is something my dad has always told me.
