This February, the Hamilton cast of Parlor Games will take the Hamilton Fine Arts Center stage. The cast and crew have been working on the show since December and can’t wait to perform their work on February 9 at 7 p.m., February 10 at 7 p.m., and February 11 at 2 p.m.
The play follows practical joker Mort McNulty (senior Josh Spoerl) as he hosts his own wake to hear what people will say about him after he's dead before he's dead. In a play synopsis by John C. Wall, he writes, “Mort's wife, Tricia,” (senior Kendall Syslack), “gets unwillingly drawn into the action and apologetically tries to convince everyone that Mort is playing another joke. We meet a variety of wake goers—some there on purpose, some not—who eventually, with the right amount of suggestion and imagination, convince themselves that Mort is dead and Tricia is in denial. The mistaken identities, chases, and jokes within jokes culminate in Tricia turning Mort's wake into a surprise party as she tries to teach her husband a lesson about practical jokes.”
This show is particularly special to the cast and crew, as it is a comedy, a genre of show that isn’t common for the Hamilton stage.
What makes this show special to you?
“This is my first show as a lead, making it extra special. I hope to do well with this opportunity that I have been given, especially because it could be my last show on the Hamilton stage. I bear a lot of responsibility with how this show turns out, so I hope to make it as great as it can be.” - Josh Spoerl ‘24, plays Mort McNulty.
“This show has had a difficult rehearsal process with how many jokes there are, the fast pace of the show, and understanding our characters. Our ability to pull all of those factors together has made this show really special!” - Lauren Steighner ‘26, plays Roberta Kluzinski.
What is your favorite line of the show?
“My favorite line would have to be Lauren Steighner, who plays Roberta, when she says, ‘I’m going to turn this place into a parking lot!’” - Cash Campbell ‘24, plays Dave Collins.
“My favorite line of the show is said by Andrew Steele who plays Harley Allenbrand. He says, ‘Oh, someone else naps in a coffin? I knew this idea would catch on!’” - Lauryn Heine ‘27, plays Fiona Belanger.
