Throughout March, Gender and Sexuality Club (GSA) will be hosting a clothing drive and multiple bake sales for Courageous Closet!
Courageous Closet is a program run by a local business, Every Little Fiber, that aims to provide clothes for people recovering from an eating disorder and/or undergoing a transition. Courageous Closet grew from the struggles many face when going through these difficult times. For those recovering from an eating disorder, their body changes rapidly and clothes that once fit them perfectly may suddenly be too small. For people going through a transition and having to figure out what clothes express the truest version of themselves, it can be very hard to go through a process of trial and error when every error is 20 dollars down the drain.
To help solve these problems, Courageous Closet acts as a free library of sorts. Any community member who is recovering from an eating disorder or undergoing a transition can email info@everylittlefiber.com to schedule a time, at their 120 Bishops Way location (Brookfield), try on clothes and expand their closet for free.
However, this wonderful program is still in its infancy, and can not function at its best without a full inventory of sizes and styles for its clients to choose from. As such, GSA is hosting a clothes drive to help jump start Courageous Closet’s inventory.
Any and all clothes are accepted in this clothes drive, so why not do some spring closet cleaning? Drop-off boxes will be available in the IMC, office, Choir Room, S-5, NA105, and E-174. AND, if you bring in clothes, make sure to ask the room’s teacher for a ticket that you can redeem for free food at GSA’s bake sales!
Bake Sales will be hosted on March 3, 10, and 17 after school in the cafeteria. All proceeds will be used to buy more clothes for Courageous Closet!
As March quickly approaches, we ask you to look through your closet for clothes you are willing to donate to help this amazing cause. Thank you!
