What are your future plans for the sport?
My future plans for hockey are to play it for fun in college by joining a recreational team in the fall or winter.
Who’s your favorite pro athlete in hockey?
My favorite pro hockey athlete is Marc-André Fleury. He was born in Canada and is now a goaltender for the Vegas Golden Knights in the NHL. Fleury’s a nice guy and very fun to watch.
How’s the season going so far? What are the team’s greatest strengths?
We have a lot of new players to fill the gaps left by the seniors last year, so as we begin to play tougher teams in the second half of the season, we have been struggling a little bit. However, we continue to work hard and compete. The team's greatest strengths are good team chemistry and that we come out strong.
Is playing for a team that isn't based in the school any different? Is it interesting playing with teammates from many schools?
Playing with other schools is a different experience than just playing with athletes from Hamilton because I got to know and become friends with other students that I would've never met outside of hockey. It's also nice knowing that it doesn't matter what school you go to because we all work together.
What hobbies do you do outside of school?
My hobbies outside of school are playing hockey and soccer, band, and playing video games with the boys.
As a goaltender, what makes your role on the team unique?
As a goaltender, I have to stay focused during the entire game to stop shots and control rebounds. I know that my performance can greatly affect the outcome of the game.
What's your warm-up routine?
As a goaltender, my warm-up routine is a little different than a player. Before games, I play catch against the wall, stretch, and do some cardio exercises. I usually stay close to the team while they are warming up.
Is this the first sport you played? How did you end up playing hockey?
The first sport I played was soccer because I had to learn to skate before playing hockey. My parents are from Canada, so hockey is very popular where they are from. I started skating when I was 5. After learning how to skate, I began playing hockey for Elmbrook Youth Hockey and then Stars Hockey when I began high school. I started playing goalie in 8th grade and have kept it up.
What’s your favorite memory from this season?
My favorite memory from this season was our home game win against Milton HS where I made 19 saves and got a shutout (0 goals allowed). It was fun getting my first shutout of the season at a home game. I enjoyed the fans' appreciation and the team win.
What advice do you have for younger athletes playing hockey?
I would tell them to always give 100% and listen to their coaches. It's important for younger players to know their position on the ice and their role on the team.
