This past Monday and Tuesday, October 11-12, Hamilton Girls Golf made their State debut at the 50th WIAA State Girls Golf Tournament. The tournament took place in Madison at the University Ridge Golf Course, where Hamilton competed against 11 Division one teams.

Teeing off for Hamilton were Seniors Isabell Gutowski, Leah Baslbaugh, Claire Kelbel, Lauren Ambrookian, Haley Dwyer, and Junior Kayla Johnson.

The team faced off against number one ranked Middleton, who was expected to win their 3rd title. The other Division 1 teams include, Appleton North, Bay Port, Brookfield Central, Brookfield East, Cedarburg, New Richmond, Tomah, Union Grove, and Salem Westosha Central.

In a surprise win, Westosha Central took home the win--their team’s first championship. Hamilton's very own girls placed second driving out top-ranked Middleton, who placed third.

On Tuesday, Hamilton was led by Johnson who shot a 74.Hamilton’s top four golfers all shot 84 or better to help contribute to the win.

Head Coach Dan Heckman says this of the team’s win, “These girls are resilient; they have learned to face adversity. They played great coming down the stretch. We had our hiccup at regionals. At sectionals, they got on a roll and we rolled right into Madison with that. So all the credit goes to these girls for being tough kids.  Not only are there golf lessons, but life lessons here. No matter what these girls do, they'll handle adversity and be successful handling it.”
