The weather is gloomy, the flowers are drooping, and the clouds are heavy. Fall is here, requiring a good book to ensure a cozy season. With Fall comes Halloween, which calls for a suspenseful and creepy book—a book to keep you on the edge of your seat, biting your fingernails, and craving the next page.

This book is sitting on a shelf in a library, awaiting your arrival. This book is Lock Every Door by Riley Sager.

It begins with the protagonist Jules getting a job everyone envies: an apartment sitter in New York City’s wealthiest apartment building, the Bartholomew. She will earn $12,000 for simply living in an apartment for three months while its wealthy owners are gone. Although this is an ideal lifestyle, Jules must follow a few peculiar rules, which create unease in both Jules’s and the reader’s stomachs.

To deepen her worries, Jules uncovers the Bartholomew's morbid history and experiences multiple mysterious occurrences. Her neighbors begin to act strange, and every incident seems slightly suspicious. Despite her unease, Jules keeps the job due to her need for money. Her previously unemployed state left her desperate, practically homeless, and miserable. $12,000 is a lot of money, and as Jules assesses her current bank situation, she decides it is worth the risk.

As conditions at the Bartholomew worsen, her decision seems to be a mistake. The occasional strange experiences develop into dangerous episodes, causing Jules and the reader to wonder what exactly is going on inside the Bartholomew. Who or what is behind these occurrences? As the Bartholomew tightens its grip on Jules, she has to uncover its mysteries and escape before it is too late.

Lock Every Door is a fast-paced novel, full of twists that make it impossible to guess the ending. It makes you suspicious of every event, every character, every object, and every design—even flowers on the wallpaper. If you are craving a thrilling read, stop by the library and pick up Lock Every Door.
