Being a part of Hamilton High doesn't just mean being a teacher or a student. There are also many other professions that take part in making Hamilton the school that it is today. One of those professions is the Athletic & Activities Director and Dean of Students. Here at HHS that title goes to Mr. Gosz. Mr. Gosz attended UW-Whitewater for BBA in Marketing, and a MSE in Business Education. He received his Masters in Educational Leadership from Marian University.

Before moving into administration, Gosz worked in business sales. Then went back to school to work on his masters; while doing so he coached basketball at UW-Whitewater and then at Sun Prairie High School. Mr. Gosz is now completing his 26th year as the Athletic & Activities Director and Dean of Students at Hamilton.

So what does being an Athletic & Activities Director and Dean of Students actually mean? Mr. Gosz says, “There really is no typical day…I must be able to juggle many things and be able to adjust on the fly.  Student discipline is unplanned so I have to deal with issues as they come up.  The major things to have covered as Athletic Director are: officials contracted, buses ordered, workers assigned, and fields/courts/facilities set up for competition.”

Clearly his job takes lots of work and dedication; when asked what the hardest part was, Gosz responded, “Sometimes you have to say ‘no’ and in today’s society that doesn’t go over really well.  In the end, my decisions are always determined by what is best for the program, athletic department, and school.”

There are, however, parts of the job that make it enjoyable. Mr. Gosz says he enjoys being able to see kids succeed, academically or athletically, especially when kids try their hardest. He says it's the most rewarding thing for the kids and himself.

When Mr. Gosz isn’t here at school; he keeps himself busy with many different hobbies. He likes to watch his kids compete in their sporting events. His son, Hunter, attends UW-LaCrosse where he plays basketball. His daughter, Danica, is a sophomore at Germantown High School and she is involved in basketball and soccer. Mr. Gosz also would like it noted that he keeps busy by “playing golf, delivering Amazon packages, Doordash, and driving buses for Dairyland Bussing.”

Being the Athletic Director, Mr. Gosz clearly enjoys sports. Mr. Gosz has coached for numeros sports including baseball, basketball and football. Since he grew up in a basketball family, he says that coaching basketball is his favorite. Mr. Gosz adds, “My favorite to watch is any sport my kids play, even if I really know nothing about the sport. For example, boys volleyball when my son plays and soccer when my daughter plays. I enjoy watching them compete and at the end of the day, since I know nothing about those sports, I just critique them on attitude and effort because no matter what you do in life, those two qualities are essential. We control those and there is no excuse for not bringing great attitude and great effort every day.”

As far as his future goals, Mr. Gosz hopes to continue the success of Hamilton athletics to being competitive within the conference and state. He also states, “[I want to ] continue to work with students to ensure they are prepared to become successful members of their respective communities upon graduation.  My hope is that they are prepared for their next step in their lives and they appreciate the journey.”
