Premier League Predictions: Week 4
Raj Ramanathan
After a short one-week break let's dive right back into the matchups for the Premier League. Judging from last week we have a lot to get into for this week, especially with upsets from the top to bottom.
The Game of the Week
Chelsea (6-3-4) v Newcastle (7-6-1)
Newcastle: This will be a battle of the powers as both of the teams are finding success this season. However, Newcastle comes as a shock, they are in the top 3 after 3 consecutive seasons of performing terribly. Players like Trippier add a defensive element that is needed. Chelsea on the other hand has struggled with their new manager and proceeded to tie. Chelsea needs a change more than ever; however, I see Newcastle winning.
Brentford (3-7-4) v Manchester City (10-2-1)
Manchester City: Manchester City has the clear upper hand in this battle of the west . I see Manchester using their outstanding skill to go up by 2 goals early on. Manchester City is on a title pursuit and any game from now on is vital to how they portray their franchise. This game won’t pose any threat and though Joao Cancelo is coming in with a red card, Pep Guardiola has other backs to fill in and depth in the position.
Bournemouth (3-4-7) v Everton (3-5-6)
Draw: These 2 teams are neck and neck in the standings; however, neither team has performed how they would have liked thus far in the season. This game will be a
crappy one with neither team coming out with a victory regardless of the results last week.
Aston Villa (4-3-7) v Brighton (6-3-4)
Brighton: The Blues have the obvious upper hand in this game, due to their skill and class on the ball. They have come off two consecutive wins against a team that posed a threat, they are still championship contenders. Brighton started strong through the first few weeks and have sparked it back. Unless Aston Villa retaliates instantly, I see Brighton winning this game.
Liverpool (5-4-4) v Southampton (3-3-8)
Liverpool: Liverpool has a better squad and should have no problem putting this game away sooner than later. They should be able to see this game out to the end using their squad depth.
West Ham (2-3-7) v Leicester City (9-1-1)
West Ham: I see West Ham coming out of the gates strong and picking up a few goals. Although they show up as being worse, I believe they have more finesse on their squad. They also have the best young CDM in all of football who has just come off the injured list.
Nottm Forest (2-3-8) v Crystal Palace (5-4-4)
Crystal Palace: What a game it was last week as Crystal Palace regained control of their team. Last week, they came out strong and took the game out from right under them. They scored 2 goals last week and I expect more to hit the back of the net this week, Crystal Palace has struggled with their defense in the past. I would like to see Zaha getting involved in this week's game to take it past Nottm Forest.
Wolves (2-4-8) v Arsenal (11-1-1)
Arsenal: Arsenal is a key player in this year's cup race, and has continued to display success from the beginning of the season now regardless of player and manager disputes their club has their eyes on the prize and has no problem this week against the Wolves.
Tottenham (8-2-4) v Leeds (4-3-6)
Tottenham: I see this being a fun game to watch for Tottenham fans but not a pretty game for Leeds fans. Both teams have recently been put in the spotlight after a great comeback from the first few games. Leeds consists of younger players, but they are teams that have not established an identity. This game is a battle of experience which the Tottenham side have a surplus of. I see this game going directly in Tottenham's favor.
Manchester United (7-2-4) v Fulham (5-4-5)
Manchester United: Fulham has a prominent squad that has really stepped out of the shadow and is now pursuing a top 5 spot. They play as if they are part of the top seven big clubs; however, with a big budget, they are still lacking in a few positions. Fulham is a squad that works together rather than a few stars, which adds to their skill as a whole because it is a different dynamic than other clubs. I see Manchester United in control of this game from start to finish.
