Premier League Predictions: Week 29
Raj Ramanathan
While the Champions League has sidetracked the top teams in the world, the Premier League continues to be thrilling. Teams like Manchester City continue to fight in both leagues. The Premier League title is still up for grabs and promotion is still being fought over. Whether it be relegation, promotion, or title hopes everything is in full swing in the Premier League.
The Games of the Week
Liverpool (12-6-8) v Manchester City (19-4-4)
Manchester City: Manchester City is playing a wonderful season with all the thanks going to Haaland. Haaland has picked up 28 goals in 26 games, with more goals than appearances, and he continues to surprise fans and coaches. To add to the Premier League success, Manchester City has made a push for the Champions League title. This showed in last week's performance against RB Leipzig as they won 7-0 with 5 goals coming directly from Haaland. This week should be more difficult but still a winning situation for Man City. The new formation put together by mastermind coach Pep Guardiola has given new light on the team as they now operate under a 3-2-4-1. On the other side of the field, Liverpool is having a less successful season with the last stretch of the season being an all-out push. With Liverpool making an early exit from the Champions due to a loss to Real Madrid, all their focus is shifted to the league and developing new talents. Gakpo and Nunez showed promise this season, however, to last long in this league they need to provide more scoring chances. This week two of the largest teams in the world will go head to head. I believe that this time Manchester City will come out on top.
Manchester United (15-5-6) v Newcastle (12-11-3)
Manchester United: This matchup is coming from a fifth ranked team in Newcastle and a third ranked team in Manchester United. Manchester United has come off of a streak of wins thanks to Rashford and Ten Hag. Rashford has been playing at the elite level for the last few games now, and that can be dedicated to Eric Ten Hag, the newfound coach. Regardless of the success, United will now face adversity as their star CDM has received a suspension due to a red card policy. Casemiro will not be playing in this match due to his reckless play and the referee's decisions. This will force players like Sabitzer to step up into a role that he is not familiar with. He has proved himself as an offensive threat but finding the perfect spot will be key if United wants to win. Newcastle on the other hand has come off of a draw and three loses coming into this game. The team has gone down for the past few weeks, but this season is proof that the quality is there for this team. Last season they finished 11 and now are fighting for a spot in the top three teams. Isak and Trippier are important as they control either side of the team. Isak is a young player no doubt, but a player who is mature and is forced to lead the attack force. On the other side, Trippier is experienced and will come into this game looking to continue its success. Due to the success in recent times, I believe that Manchester United will come out on top.
