Premier League Predictions: Week 24
Raj Ramanathan
The Premier League brings together people from all over the world, with highlights from the past and some from the future. The future holds a lot in store for viewers, especially with the trade deadline approaching. The teams and players we once cherished will be mixed up soon. Let's explore the possibilities and the matchups for this week.
The Game of the Week
Chelsea (8-6-7) v West Ham (5-4-12)
Chelsea: The Blue Devils come off of a goalless draw from the weaker Fulham side. After signing many players before the deadline and paying a hefty sum, now more than ever the expectations are high for Chelsea. For this game Chelsea will be missing Kante, Pulisic, Fofana, and Kovacic due to injury, however, Raheem Sterling is questionable for the game. With all these injuries Chelsea must rely on the new signings of Fernandez, Muyrdk, Felix, Fofana, and Madueke, these are only big-name big-money signings. The money doesn’t always pay off, and Chelsea is a great example of it. They paid 88.5 million euros for Murdyk who ended his debut with zeros across the board. Enzo Fernandez on the other hand has stepped into the gap in the midfield leaving viewers happy but looking for goals and chances created. The West Ham side has come off of a positive draw against a top three team in Newcastle. The danger of relegation has not come to an end yet as West Ham is still in the danger zone. They are fighting not only for a win but for their legacy as a club. This will be harder, especially because players such as Zouma and Cornet are out for this game due to injuries. With thousands of eyes on these teams, it will come down to a game of composure on either side. I see Chelsea squeaking by, but no doubt it will be a close encounter.
Liverpool (8-5-7) v Everton(4-6-11)
Liverpool: Underperforming is not a new word for Liverpool as they have continued to disappoint this season. Expectations were set high when players like Gakpo and Nunez entered the picture but neither of them has caused any impact whatsoever. They both combined for a total of 142 million euros and have resulted in failures. The future is bright one might argue but the present is weak for Liverpool. The team needed a rejuvenated strike force and a solidified young midfield, instead, they received two underperforming strikers. The opposing side, Everton is also in danger, however, they are in more danger as they don’t just have fans on the line they have the legacy on the line. As of today Everton is in the relegation zone and without a win or a draw, it looks like they might stay there. The re-entry of Calvert-Lewin should help the Everton side in the midfield but the rest is up to the defense. Both teams have limited opportunities and limited players but time and time again Liverpool has come out on top.
Manchester United (13-4-5) v Leeds United (4-7-10)
Manchester United : The Manchester United fans have been joyful ever since Marcus Rashford and Casemiro have stepped in place of the veteran members. The young Rashford has recently found or hit a keynote in his playing style as it has been paying off. Erik Ten Hag has coached a properly put-together team, with elements of Antony and Sancho shining through. Both players had a hard time settling in, but as of now, they both have been contributing to the winning efforts. After last week Manchester has stepped into third place and is starting to look like the old Manchester United. Leeds on the other hand is in shambles, with players and coaches on different pages. The hope for Leeds is not high but in order to continue the fight they must come out ready to go. From the whistle, Leeds must go full force in the attack as scoring has been a problem. If Manchester United continue the rampage they should have no problem beating Leeds.
