Donate Your E-Waste

Grace Farrell

E-waste is a huge problem around the world. Any electronics that have been used and are wanting to be disposed of can be considered e-waste. Electronics are filled with rare earth materials, like coltan. These materials are mined from the earth and contribute to habitat destruction for many animals, especially gorillas.

The Milwaukee Zoo and the Zoological Society of Milwaukee are hosting a competition for e-waste donations. Both of these organizations are affiliated with the competition Gorillas on the Line in order to recycle e-waste and bring awareness to the devastating effects of mining on animal habitats. Any e-waste that is laying around your house and being stored away can be brought to Ms. Wainio’s room (S5) or the library (IMC) from now until April 14.
