NBA Updates 3: The Game

Adu Reghuram

When we talk about development, we can use terms such as evolution, growth, and even expansion. Watching these past games have made us remember how the games have developed into something that has become more entertaining. If someone were to come up to you and say, “Describe today's NBA in one word,” Would you say, fast-paced?

If you have been watching today’s modern NBA, I think I can speak for everyone when I say it has been quite evolutionary. From players such as Bob Petite from the 50s to players such as Giannis Antentokounpo, the game has been more than fast-paced. Ladies and gentlemen, we live in an era where we witness extraordinary plays from all the greats. We are lucky to be witnessing greatness. Like everything, greats come to an end due to retirement. Let's show some gratitude while we continue into the NBA season.

Hello basketball fans, today I will be catching you guys up this week. I will talk about the Lakers' retiring George Mikan’s number, important updates going into week 3, and the matchups of the week. Without further ado, let's dive into the analysis.

Lakers Retire George Mikan No. 99

Hall of Famer George Mikan’s jersey was retired Sunday night in a pregame ceremony by the Lakers. Mikan’s family was there to celebrate the honor and watch No. 99 be unveiled. For those of you who don't know, the 1948 National Basketball League MVP and four-time All-Star helped lead the then-Minneapolis Lakers to 5 championships. He was elected to the NBA Hall of Fame in 1959. Mikan also led the league in scoring for three consecutive seasons! The six-time All-NBA first team player averaged 23.1 points, 13.4 rebounds, and 2.8 rebounds in his career. These are just a few of the many accomplishments he has achieved in his career. We will always remember George Mikan not only for what he accomplished on the court but off as well. Rest in peace, George Mikan.

Everything You Need To Know Entering Week 3

  • Doncic put on a show in Dallas this past Sunday, scoring 30 points in the first half alone, and finishing with 44 points on 17-of-26 (65.4%) shooting to go with 5 assists. Luka Doncic is leading the NBA season with points and we can expect more out of him in the coming years.

  • Donovan Mitchell has had his season with the Utah Jazz, but he is exceeding expectations with the Cavaliers, averaging 32.2 points, 7.3 assists, and 4.5 rebounds. His unique play style, which consists of playmaking and scoring, fits right in with his new team. The Cavs, who are off to a 5-1 start, are looking bright and I can't wait to see what this team will have to offer when the post-season comes around.

  • There is only one undefeated team entering week three and it's the 5-0 Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks boast the league’s top-ranked defense, allowing only 106.2 points per 100 possessions. The Bucks have scored at least 110 points in each of their past four games. The Bucks aren't necessarily the most skilled team either, it's their chemistry and defense that make them stand out as a team.

  • We have been talking about the positive side of NBA teams, but let's take a look at the team that we have all been keeping our eyes on. The Los Angeles Lakers opened their season by losing five straight games! We didn't know what to expect coming out of the season when it came to the Lakers. Could the trio (LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, and Anthony Davis) that was projected to win the NBA Finals live up to expectations? Fortunately, it is too early to make predictions about how the team will do in the upcoming season.
