Sydney Alexander-Brown, a sophomore at Hamilton High School, is November’s Musician of the Month! Below are some questions she has answered about her experience in Cantabile Choir, from performances to singing aspirations. If you’re interested in joining the HHS choir program, or are into anything music related, then keep reading!

What is your favorite thing about being in choir?

I love learning new music, especially music from different cultures. But my favorite thing is probably making new friends who have the same passion for music as I do!

When did you discover your love of singing?

I have always loved singing for as long as I can remember.

Are you an alto, soprano, or mezzo?

I am a soprano.

What is your current favorite song that you're learning in choir at the moment?

Most definitely “Bridge over Troubled Waters.” It is so pretty!

What upcoming performance are you most excited about?

I am super excited for Synergy Showchoir competitions!

What is your favorite thing about the Cantabile Choir?

I think my favorite part about being a part of the Cantabile Choir is getting to know the freshmen, continuing to connect with the sophomores, and of course learning new music.

Are you thinking of joining concert choir and/or acapella next year?

I definitely plan on joining concert choir and I will for sure audition for a cappella!

Do you wish to pursue singing in the future? If so, what would you like to do?

Yes, I plan on pursuing singing in the future! I want to be on Broadway, and I also want to be a voice/choir teacher!

Has there ever been a song that you've sung in choir that has impacted you?

I think every song in some shape or form has impacted me.

Is it easy to make friends within the choir community?

Absolutely! Everyone is so kind and accepting in the choir community.

What do you like to do in order to help out in your choir?

I like to help in any way I can, whether that’s writing a lesson pass for someone, helping them find their notes, or being there if anyone needs someone to be there for them!

What advice would you give to a freshman in choir?

Be yourself and have fun! Everyone in the choir will love you no matter what, and that’s the fun part! You can be yourself without judgment in choir!
