2024 Cultural Diversity Personal Essay Contest Charger Press & Club Unique
The Hamilton School District has experienced significant growth in its culturally diverse population over the years. Currently, the district serves 611 students of Asian cultural background and 134 students with Hispanic cultural backgrounds. With this diversity in mind, Club Unique believes that a Cultural Diversity Thematic Essay Contest will inspire our students to share their knowledge about their cultures. The cultural diversity contest is meant to embrace and celebrate all our students in order to build bridges of trust, respect, and understanding across cultures.
Eligibility: Open to all currently enrolled high school students who have personal experience with cultural diversity.
Essay Prompt:
The essay should address, directly or indirectly, one of the following topics:
Cultural Diversity: Challenge and Opportunity
Living Harmoniously Amidst Cultural Diversity
Embracing the Legacy: Carrying Forward the Traditions of My Ancestors
Learning from the Past, Shaping the Future: The Importance of Preserving Traditions
Suggestions for Developing the Essay:
Analyze the challenges and opportunities: Discuss the complexities of navigating a diverse world. How can cultural differences create obstacles, and how can they also be catalysts for growth and innovation?
Living in harmony: Explore strategies for promoting understanding and respect amidst cultural diversity. How can we build bridges across cultures and create inclusive communities?
Personal experience: Share a personal story or an observation that illustrates the impact of cultural diversity in your life. How has it challenged your perceptions or enriched your understanding of the world?
Submission Guidelines:
Submit your essay electronically by completing the google form:
Include your full name, grade level, and school name in a separate document, not on the essay itself.
Essays must be typed in 12-point font, double-spaced, with standard margins.
Ensure your essay is original and free of plagiarism.
All submitted essays must be the original work of the student.
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) or other automated essay generation tools is strictly prohibited. Using AI to generate essays undermines the spirit of this competition and deprives students of the opportunity to express their own ideas.
Length: from 500 to 700 words
Judging Criteria:
Originality and creativity
Depth of analysis and argument
Clarity and coherence of writing
Effective use of evidence and examples
Adherence to the essay prompt and guidelines
Judging Panel consists of: teachers, administrators, literacy coaches, parents
Announcement: Winners will be announced in April of 2024.
Award: The first place essay will get a $100 stipend. In addition, first three places will be featured in Chargers Press, and they will be read at this year's Heritage Festival, on April 20th, 2024.
Deadline for submission: April 1, 3 pm.
The winner will be announced by April 15th.
