Paper Towel Problems

After the devious licks of the fall, Hamilton faces a new potty problem: no paper towels. Throughout the year, there have been ongoing problems and vandalism with the Hamilton bathrooms. The latest issue is that in the boys’ bathroom, some students would wet paper towels and throw them at the walls and each other, and use them to clog toilets. Because of this, all Hamilton student bathrooms had paper towels taken away.
While we have hand dryers in the bathrooms, they do not necessarily work efficiently. Junior Peyton Impola states, “The dryers are annoying because they do not dry your hands all the way. You have to use it multiple times to be fully dry.”
Moreover, most bathrooms only have one or two hand dryers. Students have to wait in line to dry their hands, and when there are a lot of students in the bathroom (such as during passing time), it can take a long time to get your hands dry. Student Bronwyn Rhoades talks about this experience, saying, “Sometimes I have to skip drying my hands so I won’t be late to class.”
Along with that, hand dryers spread a huge amount of bacteria. According to marketwatch.com, “Air hand dryers suck up fecal matter from the bathroom air and spray it onto users’ hands, a new study published by the American Society for Microbiology found.” Students should not have to choose between having germ-covered hands or having wet hands in class.
Punishing everyone for a small group of peoples’ vandalism is extremely unfair. It is not the entire school's problem that they decided to cause trouble. The individuals who committed the act should be punished, not everyone.
