Mrs. Hasbrook, Hamilton High School Guidance Counselor, was selected as one of the 100 2020 Herb Kohl Education Foundation Teacher Fellowship Program recipients and was honored at the Winter Pep Assembly held on February 27. The letter announcing her selection cites her “skill as a leader and agent for positive change and superior ability to inspire love of learning,” when congratulating her on this amazing achievement.

According to the Herb Kohl Education Foundation website, “The Kohl Teacher Fellowship program recognizes and supports teaching excellence and innovation in the State of Wisconsin, USA. Our goal is to support teachers in the pursuit of their unrealized goals for their classrooms or professional development.”

Her dedication to students and innovation in regards to school led her through the rigorous application process, which began with a nomination by someone- in her case, a student. Following that, she applied and completed a variety of essays. In her own words, the application, “is like a resume of what your experience was. In the application, you have to show things you have done that have created change. My focus was on mental health and parent education.”

Mrs. Hasbrook has the drive and motivation to reach for the stars. when asked about her favorite parts about her job, she said, “Everything. I love the students. I love their energy and emotions. I love watching and supporting them in becoming their best selves. I love working with parents. I love supporting them and helping them build healthy relationships with their children.” Mrs. Hasbrook saw this grant as a way to elevate her ability to promote wellness in students and parents. She said, “I am going to use the money to further parent education and mental health awareness.”

I believe that I can speak for everyone when I say thank you for being so dedicated and passionate, Mrs. Hasbrook!
