Anyone who attended last week’s football game already knows about the newest addition to the half-time festivities: a t-shirt cannon. The robot, named Sonic Boom, first appeared at half-time, firing six shirts for its first demonstration
The robot was built as a project led by a group of Robotics seniors including Tyler Canham, Carly Ungerer, and Gretchen Brookes, in order to increase the team’s presence in the Hamilton community, generate more excitement about STEM, and build the skills and knowledge of team members.
The team rolled out their newest addition to their lineup of robots this past week to prepare for a larger exhibition at the homecoming game and found a great amount of excitement and anticipation from the student section already. After the initial firing, the student section was quick to respond with enthusiasm, clamoring for shirts and asking questions about the process of building it.
When asked about it, Charger Robotics members found it to be a great success and have already worked to implement their planned improvements for their showings this week. The project proved to be a great gateway into the larger Charger community. One student, Davi Facchini, said “It’s like half of the school found out we have a robotics team, and the other half found out we actually do things.”
If you haven’t gotten the chance to see Sonic Boom in action, make sure to show up to the fall Pep Rally and the Homecoming game this Friday to try to snag a t-shirt.
