Bookworm Book Drive
Maya Bell
For some people, books are just words on a page, parts of ink. For others, books are a gateway into a whole new world: worlds like ours or worlds of magic and mystery. Books mean something different to everyone, but one thing books bring is opportunity. One concrete thing that we know books do is helping to promote knowledge and understanding among people. That’s why libraries and textbooks exist in all parts of the world.
For people living in the suburbs, it’s easy to shrug off the importance of books, since we can get them almost anywhere without much trouble. It might be hard to understand why there should even be a book drive in the first place. Getting books here isn’t that hard, it's one click away with Amazon or online booksellers. But for some people, it's not so easy; for people without the money for an Amazon account or minimal access to small bookstores nearby, people have to rely on the library for their books. With COVID-19, finding books is even harder now. It's important that everyone can have access to books. Even if the fundraiser doesn’t raise that many books, we hope to make the lives of even just a few, that much better.
How to donate:
If you want to donate, you can drop off your gently used books in the boxes located around Hamilton High School. The books should be appropriate for children or teenagers. The boxes will be located in the library entrance and the cafeteria entrance and the drive will run until June 4, 2021.
