How long have you been playing?
I am in my seventh year playing softball.
What is your favorite memory from softball?
My favorite memory was the collective experience of making it to the State tournament my freshman year. From the hard work and preparation needed all season to prepare for our games, to having my first playoff experience with an amazing comeback in the Sectional Final, and ultimately getting to play on Goodman Diamond at UW-Madison was an unforgettable memory.
What do you think is your favorite/best softball goal you've accomplished?
Besides my commitment, I am most proud of competing at an extremely competitive level of travel softball for the past few years. Being able to place top-10 at the most prestigious travel tournament in California was definitely an accomplishment, as well as my team winning our bracket at the biggest travel tournament in Colorado.
What will you miss most about playing for Hamilton?
Hamilton has brought me some of my best friends. Getting to play with girls who I can call family is truly a blessing, and I will miss getting to compete for conference and playoff titles with them.
How has softball impacted your life?
Many people say softball is a game of failure; it’s true. Through this sport I have learned to cope with failure and have improved my mental toughness. I have learned that it takes hard work to be successful, and that there are always opportunities to seize. But most importantly, sports have connected me to so many new friends, and many I will have for the rest of my life.
What is one lesson you've learned from softball?
Softball teaches you to never underestimate anyone, including yourself. There are always instances where you can succeed even when you feel overwhelmed by your opponent. I’ve learned that by having a strong work ethic, you can always learn new skills.
What was the recruitment process like for you?
I am proud to say that my recruitment process was very self-driven. I took it upon myself to research and tour schools, but then also work with college coaches to create opportunities for myself. I am very fortunate my parents were able to support me throughout the process as well as my coaches and teammates.
Was it hard weeding out other schools?
I was slightly atypical in the recruitment process as I limited myself from the beginning to schools that fit my academic goals. As time went on, I was able to familiarize myself with coaches, programs, and campuses of the schools I was originally interested in and that made it easy to find schools that fit my end goals and those that did not. When I got down to two schools, then it became difficult to make a decision. However, I ultimately reverted back to my original mentality and found that Gettysburg College fit me best academically and athletically.
What is it like committing so early? A lot of people have asked me why I committed so early. For me, my goals for a program and school were very clear from the beginning of my recruitment process. When an opportunity at Gettysburg College came along, I didn’t see the point in waiting for other schools that I was less interested in when I had already found a school with everything I was looking for.
What is one thing that a softball coach has told you, that you will carry into playing in college?
In my first game my freshman year our coach told me, “You belong here.” When in doubt, it’s important to remember that my college coach chose me for a reason, I play for a reason, and that my abilities and attitudes are strong enough to be successful in anything I choose to do in life.
What advice do you have for younger players?
My advice would be don’t speak before you act. If younger players have goals, work to achieve them. Earn your reputation, but most importantly enjoy the game for what it is. Having fun and playing loose makes softball fun and worth your time.
What are you most excited about next year playing for the Gettysburg Bullets?
I am most excited to be joining a program with a strong work ethic and amazing people. When visiting, I was able to meet the current team and was excited about their driven attitudes. I am looking forward to working hard and competing for a fantastic program and a spot in the NCAA tournament.
Is there anyone you’d like to give a positive shoutout to who has been instrumental in your journey? All of my past coaches deserve a shout out because they have been amazing mentors and role models to me throughout my life.
