Hello! RISE would like to welcome all students, families, and faculty back to school; we hope you’ve had an exciting two weeks! At Hamilton High School, the RISE Club’s mission is to foster a supportive and inclusive community where young women can unite, inspire, and uplift one another. We are dedicated to empowering our members through leadership, service, and advocacy, while actively supporting female-driven charities and companies that champion women's causes. Through collaborative efforts, educational initiatives, and community engagement, we strive to create lasting positive change and build a future where all women can thrive and succeed. Together, we RISE.

As our first event of the year, RISE will be participating in the Susan G. Komen “MORE THAN PINK WALK” in Milwaukee, this Sunday, September 22 and fundraising for Komen through October 20! Komen’s mission is to save lives by meeting the most critical needs of our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer. They are currently the only breast cancer organization with a 360-degree approach to fight breast cancer: research, care, community, and action. In addition, Komen is the leading fundraiser for breast cancer research, boasting a title second to federal funding. In the past 40 years, Komen has raised $1.3 billion for breast cancer research. This past July, Komen funded $10 million of new research!

Why is fighting breast cancer so important?

  • While the most significant risk factors of breast cancer are being a woman and getting older, men can also get breast cancer, and the cancer can develop at any age. Anyone can be diagnosed at any age

  • One in eight women will have breast cancer in her lifetime.

  • 90% of those diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of breast cancer

  • Every 12 minutes, one woman in the United States will die from breast cancer.

  • Approximately 5,700 people in Wisconsin alone will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the next year, and about 775 will die.

  • African-American women in the U.S. die from breast cancer approximately 40% more than White women.

  • Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths for Hispanic women in the U.S.

As a club founded with women’s issues at heart, RISE is excited to work with Susan G. Komen to further our shared mission of empowering women and raising awareness for breast cancer. Students are able to not only join RISE on the day of the walk, but also help by joining the effort and making a fundraising page. The grade that helps RISE raise the most money will get a prize of a grade wide ice cream party sponsored by our partner Susan G. Komen! To win this prize, there must be at least 30 students from your grade signed up to our team, whichever grade gets the most fundraising will win the ice cream party. Through this partnership, we aim to bring greater attention to the challenges faced by those affected by breast cancer, advocate for early detection, and support groundbreaking research. Together, we hope to foster a community of strength, solidarity, and resilience, where women feel empowered to take control of their health and well-being.

Komen donors and supporters make all of this possible! Your efforts save and extend lives! The funds raised go to several different areas of research and support. Donations provide direct financial support to our most vulnerable local breast cancer patients, support local, state, and national advocacy for policies that benefit ALL breast cancer patients. Funds toward research make it possible to find treatment and cures for the most aggressive breast cancers. Lastly, donations ensure availability of the Komen Cancer Cure Hotline to everyone. This hotline supplies culturally sensitive health workers to provide access to local resources, expert information, and physical, emotional, and financial support.

Again, the walk is on Sunday, September 22 at Henry Maier Festival Park in Milwaukee. We hope to see you there!

Remember: Donations are accepted through October 20
