Beginning on September 23rd and lasting for approximately 89.8 days, we experience fall. The bright leaves, cozy sweaters, and pumpkin spice must not be wasted. We only have 89.8 days to fulfill our autumn goals and make the most of this extraordinary season. The following includes a fall to-do list to maximize enjoyment for the next 80 days.
1) Explore a corn maze
Picture this: It is a gloomy fall day, and you think you have nothing to do. However, corn mazes are everywhere, waiting to be explored. Do not let corn mazes be forgotten about—locate a perplexing maze and get lost in the endless stalks.
2) Pick and carve pumpkins
Naturally, one must carve pumpkins. Visit a pumpkin patch on a gray fall day and spend the afternoon picking the right pumpkin. Pumpkin patches are perfectly picturesque with their bright orange pumpkins sitting in front of a farm, so appreciate every moment you spend at one. After a fulfilling pumpkin patch visit, it is time to carve the pumpkin. Endless creative opportunities lay ahead of you, from horrifying to comedic faces. Carving pumpkins is a necessity this season; do not miss out on this experience.
3) Visit a haunted house
This season is not complete without a haunted house. Scare yourself with a terrifying haunted house tour. Walking through a creepy house in the dead of night is sure to satisfy the Halloween thrill-seekers.
4) Make autumn recipes
The scent of cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg fills the kitchen. Pumpkin spice pervades through the house. Autumn recipes satisfy everyone’s taste buds, from apple pie to pumpkin bars to cinnamon rolls. Of course, we must not forget soup, a staple fall dinner. Butternut squash soup, chicken dumpling soup, and chili are great options for a cozy Soup Sunday.
5) Hike through beautiful trails
Hiking in the fall is an unmatched experience. With vibrant fall colors decorating our trees and leaves crunching underneath our shoes, a walk through the forest is a great way to appreciate the outdoors.
6) Visit an apple orchard
After hiking, stop by a local apple orchard. Walking into the orchard, you will be overwhelmed with the sweet smell of apples. Varieties upon varieties of apples lay ahead of you, waiting to be picked. After buying a bag of fresh apples and a mug of hot apple cider, you will fulfill your day.
7) Watch horror movies/fall films
A cool night calls for a horror movie. Classics like The Shining or A Nightmare on Elm Street are great options to rewatch. If horror movies aren’t your thing, there are many other fall film options. Dead Poets Society, When Harry Met Sally, and Hocus Pocus are non-horror films that perfectly capture the fall aesthetic. Of course, one can’t forget It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown for a perfect throwback movie.
8) Read fall books/classics
Curling up in a fluffy blanket with a good book is a relaxing way to spend an autumn afternoon. The book needs to match the season and luckily, many books paint a clear fall picture. Reread the Harry Potter books for this instant image or grab the popular novels, The Maidens or The Ninth House. If you crave a classic, The Picture of Dorian Gray is a timeless novel that simultaneously creates a fall aesthetic and sends chills down your spine.
9) Invest in seasonal candles
This season is all about scents. Pumpkin spice, apple cider, cinnamon, and so many other scents are waiting to be enjoyed. Candles are an absolute necessity in autumn. Without them, one of your five senses is starved. Light a candle while doing homework, baking pumpkin bread, or reading The Ninth House. Calming candle scents make fall a happier season for everyone.
10) Travel around the Northeast
For those interested in traveling this fall, the Northeast is an ideal destination. Famous for its beautiful foliage, a drive down a Vermont road with red, orange, and yellow leaves falling on your windshield will uplift your day. Towns like Bar Harbor, Maine; Woodstock, Vermont; and Salem, Massachusetts are unmatched getaways.
Do not let this gift of a season pass you by. Soon, the bright foliage will fall and shrivel up, only to be covered with sheets of snow. Pumpkins will turn mushy; apples will be forgotten on the cold ground. Take advantage of fall, the greatest season of them all.
